This is a momi that lives just up the mountain from us in Tahoe area. The year before last, 2012, in the news the following story appeared. An elderly but fit man who lived in Paradise California was taking his usual hike. He noticed the mother bear with her cubs, he had seen her often, and as usual he respectfully walked on the path away from her ... suddenly a mountain lion jumped on his back and pinned him to the ground. In a moment the mother bear ran up to the scene and grabbed the mountain lion and tossed it away, then ambled back to her cubs. The man was hardly scratched as his back pack took most of the lions claws. This is a true story - the lion survived too. His wife was glad to have him home...

Konar's work is both light and dark in subject, approaching at every turn both the whimsical and the mischievous.
