Description
This is a scene from the verse of the song, "The House of the Rising Sun". The song was made popular during the 60's by the Animals - but originally it was a Church hymn - as evidenced by a close examination of the verses. This scene depicts the verse, "My father was a gambling man, down in New Orleans, and the only thing a gambler needs is a suitcase and a trunk, And the only time he is satisfied is when he is winning or he's drunk." The cards spread by his hand are Aces & Eights. Andromeda, the lady falling in the chains of bondage, represents many of us and also the Church. Perseus is seen, partly hidden by the smoke, the bright star in the severed head that he holds in Arabic is Al Ghoul "the demon" which he has slain. In the time they found out that shipping fertilizer in the holds of ships was disastrous because it would become explosive when it fermented by being in contact with the seepage water - they soon learned and labeled the crates Ship High In Transit but they only used the initials for the labeling ... their are a few more stories hidden in this painting .... I hope you enjoy.
